People skills are underrated and project management skills are overrated.

Another thing that you mentioned is opportunity and this should be coupled with patience, we all wanted to become engineering managers right away but truth be told these positions don’t show up every week. Not to mention that we need to be humble enough to understand we are not ready yet.

I definitely agree about starting with the intent. Very often you’ll manager will know some blind spots that are specific to yourself or the organization, and can be a huge help in the transition!

Do you know the impact AI is having to EM job offers? Or where I can find that data?

I saw recently some data with a slight decrease for PM and SDE roles. I would like to know for EMs. It might also help if someone is doubting about moving to EM.

Great question! The only data I have is the notification I got from Linkedin a couple of days ago which said EM jobs are up. I don't know how to attach that screenshot here.
